On the 27th of March 2023, in Milan, Leaders First hosted the “Sustainable Leadership” hybrid event. Members and special guests joined in-person and online for the live streamed talk about the best ways to prepare for a net zero future, sustainability opportunities and the B Corporation movement.
The 
first speaker of the event was Federica Rampinini, Senior Relationship Manager at Principles for Responsible Investments. PRI is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment, supported by the United Nations, whose signatories contribute to developing a more sustainable global financial system.
Federica shared her precious knowledge on the best strategies to empower investments, without affecting the future generations. From her point of view, one of the key steps to bridge the sustainability gap through rewiring the economy is to properly select managers who share the same vision on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues. Applying these principles may better align investors to broader, new generational objectives of society. And, since it takes time to build a trustworthy relationship with investment managers, it is crucial to provide clients a full spectrum on how ESG criteria can affect the performance of investment portfolios.

“Over time, PRI has built a community of signatories who share the same goals. How do you educate them to incorporate the ESG Principles into their investment plans?”
Federica Rampinini: “We make sure to provide our beneficiaries valuable and practical tools – such as papers, guides and articles, as we actively involve them in net zero events. In this way, they are most likely to identify and prioritise, in their decision making, issues like climate change. Over time, we have defined our best practices to increase commitment from our clients. We share with them both mandatory activities and free ones. As they take up their responsibilities, we keep track of their effort through our key performance indicators”.
Speaking of sustainability, our talk at the event would have been incomplete without some precious references to the B Corporation movement, which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders.
Our second speaker, Partner at ROSSI – Studio Legale Tributario, Sustainability Consultant, B-Expert at Nativa srl SB, Luigi Rossi shared with the audience an inspiring presentation.
