We are excited to bring you the first edition of our Women in Leadership interview series! Today, we are happy to present to you Chiara Pochetti, the COO of GODO Italia and Premium Member of Leaders First. Chiara shared with us her advice for any young professional entering her field of business, her views on female leadership and why every woman has what it takes to become a leader!
Hello Chiara, can you tell us a bit about your company and role?
I’m the COO of GODO Italia and Marketing & Communication Director of GODO Worldwide.
How did you get into it?
I have known the management for a very long time and I once promised them that should they come to Milan, I would follow them. And that’s exactly what I did.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
My favourite part of the job is to manage relationships between people and companies.
Describe what female leadership means to you?
I think that female leaders are more likely to coach, mentor and develop their direct reports, using feedback effectively and give directions in a way that helps people grow strategically in their relationships.
What skills someone entering your industry now should focus on improving?
In my field of expertise (Marketing, Communication, PR) it is important to have strong digital thinking and communication skills, so these are the two anyone entering the industry should work on.
What makes a good team leader/manager?
To be a good team-building manager you have to give the first example that others will follow, to be strong but also to be humble.
How important it is in your profession to have a trusted business network and continued learning?
It’s the most important thing! It is very important to constantly work on oneself and also to constantly work on building a team.
What do you think we should change in order for women to feel more encouraged to become leaders?
Every woman can become a leader, every woman can be a manager and she will understand it when she is confronted with a team of men. A woman can make a big difference.
Why did you decide to join Leaders First?
A dear friend of mine asked me to join so I tried it and I very much liked the approach and the opportunities Leaders First offer.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I spend time with my children, I love to discover the world with them.
